Being a friend like The Friend

“We are to join our friends in their blessedness as well as in their afflictions. One of the particular comforts we have, by virtue of our Savior’s priestly intercession for us, is that He is able to be touched with the feeling of our infirmities. He is not just a heavenly business man who deals with us only on a professional basis. He feels with us in our struggles and he understands us. He is able to exercise holy sympathy even with His wicked, rebellious brethren. To exercise holy sympathy with a friend is on of the most profitable duties we can perform in a biblical friendship.”

Steve Wilkins, Face to Face: Meditations on Friendship and Hospitality (Moscow, ID: Canon, 2002), 51.
